Day 15

“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over . . . every living thing that moves on the earth.’” (Genesis 1:26-27)

When God created the first human beings and placed them in the Garden of Eden, He provided a perfect environment where every need and desire was satisfied. Man and woman ruled the created order as God’s representatives and had meaningful relationships and fulfilling work. The greatest advantage of their life, before sin came into the world, was that they had a personal relationship with God where they could enjoy long walks with Him without any tinge of guilt.

Adam and Eve had the capacity to commune with God spiritually, live like God morally, and relate to God personally. We were (and are) created in God’s image, making us the crown of His creation and a ruling steward of all God created.

God’s desire was for humanity to live on this earth, generation after generation, in a constant relationship, free from sin and unhindered by disease, pollution, or death.

The New City Catechism asks why we were created. The answer, “God created us male and female in His own image to know Him, love Him, live with Him, and glorify Him. And it is right that we who were created by God should live for His glory.

Application of God’s Truth

God longs to enjoy a relationship with you and created you to know and enjoy Him as your Lord and Savior.  Ask God to give you a hunger and thirst for knowing Him better and glorifying Him more.
